The Pax Ludens Foundation

Drawing upon our vast experiences in International Relations and Conflict Resolution, Pax Ludens helps organizations make better decisions within complex environments. Our training programs and simulations are designed to challenge the decision-makers of today - and tomorrow - on questions of leadership, conflict management, diplomacy, etc.

Core activities
Our core activities include the design and execution of training programs and simulation exercises based on case studies in the field of International Relations and Conflict Resolution. In all of our training programs, we challenge participants to 'become' one of the stakeholders in a plausible setting, explore their roles and the ones of other stakeholders, and deal with crisis and conflict situations as events continue to unfold.

Over the years we have established our reputation as a credible, reliable and innovative organization through:

  • Our unique approach to design, develop and execute strategic simulations in conflict dynamics and IR
  • Our long-term commitment and operation of projects with and for think-tanks, defense institutes and universities around the world
  • Our extensive network of consultants, professionals, policy advisors and experts who help us gain complex knowledge of specific conflict dynamics
  • Our various partnerships and joint-projects with other institutions

We offer the world's premier, best-in-class experiential learning, support tools and results assurance.

Pax Ludens in the Journal of International Negotiation
Despite the wealth of experience among simulation scholars, there is still little consensus on how to link gaming attributes to specific learning objectives. With their article, titled: Training the Warrior-Diplomat, Mans, Shimshon & Suransky contribute to this discussion and argue that specific simulation design can lead to reaching pre-defined learning objectives. The authors present a teaching project developed and executed for the Netherlands Defense Academy, how it was set up in 2005, and the way it evolved over time. The authors discuss how the methodology fits into the academic debate on the strengths of experiential learning, read more.
